KARELIA - what to see: Ruskeala, waterfalls, retro train, best places
⛰️ Ruskeala Mountain Park, retro train in Sortavala, Karelian cuisine, waterfalls, lakes, Marble Canyon - Karelia attracts tourists from all over Russia. Tours to this region are becoming more popular every year. In this video I showed how a 1-day excursion to Karelia from St. Petersburg works (I went in the summer of 2024). I chose a mini-group tour visiting the main attractions.

• Eco-park “Valley of Waterfalls”. The nature park includes an eco-trail with waterfalls, a husky, elk and deer nursery, and the Sami Village open-air museum. A visit costs 800 rubles.
• Retro train “Ruskeala Express”. A stylized train in Karelia travels along the Sortavala – Ruskeala route and back. It runs on steam traction, and its carriages are decorated in the spirit of the 19th century. Tickets for the retro train were included in the tour price.
• Ruskeala Mountain Park. What to see: Marble Canyon, Italian Quarry, White Mountain, adits.
In Karelia it is worth trying national cuisine - fish soup with cream, wicket with potatoes or northern berries (cloudberries, lingonberries), fireweed, and mead. I liked the food in the cafe in the Ruskeala Mountain Park (tastier than in the retro train). I advise you to buy something tasty in the Valley of Waterfalls eco-park, and you will find a good selection of souvenirs in Ruskeala.
