Hey there, guys! Here's my list of the top 10 villains from the '80s action movies, ranked and with human villains only. I know that I might've missed some villains and/or some best scenes of the villains presented in my video but I just want you to know that every list or ranking created by someone is always goint to be very subjective. As this is "my" list, I've chosen the villains according to "my" likings and you can definitely have totally different picks. Let me know who are your favourite villains down in the comment section!
When choosing my favourite villains I was taking some factors into consideration, such as intimidation, intelligence, aggressiveness, most memorable moments and lines, cheesiness. I included only humans in this list as I'll definitely want to create a "monsters only" list one day.
Here's the list in descending order:
10. Clubber Lang (Rocky III, 1982), played by Mr. T. One of the classic Balboa's enemies, an aggresive, hard-hitting villain. It was Mr. T's first major film role.
9. Victor Maitland (Beverly Hills Cop, 1984), played by Steven Berkoff. I'm a huge fan of the Beverly Hills Cop series and Victor Maitland was the first villain in the series. Unrepentant and devious. As a kid I was intimitaded by his calm in every scene.
8. Bennett (Commando, 1985), played by Vernon Wells. Gotta love the cheesiness of the '80s! And this is a classy '80s action movie villain. Bennett always reminded me buffed Freddy Mercury.
7. Ivan Drago (Rocky IV, 1985), played by Dolph Lundgren. The second Balboa's enemy on the list. Cold, emotionless killing machine.
6. John Ryder (The Hitcher, 1986), played by Rutger Hauer. Hauer as a psychopat hitch-hiker here is just brilliant. Sometimes it takes just his facial expressions and gaze to sends shivers down the spine.
5. Joker (Batman, 1989), played by Jack Nicholson. This version of Joker was funny and scary at the same time when I watched Tim Burton's Batman for the first time as a kid. That Nicholson's smile and facial expressions are perfect for Joker.
4. Clarence Boddicker (Robocop, 1987), played by Kurtwood Smith. Well, Dick Jones is considered to be the main villain of the movie but my favourite is Boddicker here. He's brutal, aggresive and slick with the ladies;)
3. Yves Perret (Tango & Cash, 1989), played by Jack Palance. Now you might wonder why is that not very popular guy that high on the list? It's just because Tango & Cash was one of my favourite and very often replayed movies when I was a kid. Perret is smooth and calm mastermind who loves mice. Just love Jack Palance's performance here.
2. Tong Po (Kickboxer, 1989), played by Michel Qissi. Ruthless and cold-blooded. When I, as a kid, saw Tong Po I was scared as hell. You can be intimidated just by his looks. A percect example that you don't need to talk much to be scary.
1. Hans Gruber (Die Hard, 1988), played by Alan Rickman. Yes, I'm not very original here (as Gruber's probably on almost every top villains list out there). But you gotta give credit where credit is due. Eloquent, intelligent, cold thief. Oh, sorry! An exceptional thief! Such a brilliant performance by Rickman. And let's just mention it was his first cinema role.
My honourable mentions:
Chong Li (Bloodsport, 1988), played by Bolo Yeung
Johnny Lawrence & John Kreese (The Karate Kid, 1984), played by William Zabka & Martin Kove)
Hit that subscribe button if you like content like this one as I'm definitely going to create more lists, including '90s villains, monster villains etc. Feel free to comment and let me know who are your favourite villains and which villains should I include in the future lists. Cheers!
