Trackside Video Presents; Steamin in '92 (1992 VHS)
Ride along as we go "Steamin in '92" with the third tape in our "Steamin” series. We'll start you off with the Western Maryland Shay 6 at Cass Scenic Railroad. You'll ride along as the world's largest operating Shay battles Cheat Mountain on her inaugural passenger excursion on the newly constructed line to Spruce. From Cass we'll head to Dillsboro, NC for a ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. You'll ride along as the Great Smoky Mountains 2-8-0 #1702 winds her way along Southern's old Murphy Subdivision on her way to Bryson City. From Bryson City we'll head east to Spencer and catch some of the action at the Historic Spencer Shops with the return to service of Southern 604 (ex-Buffalo Creek & Gauley). You'll climb in the cab of #604 as she handles her vintage passenger train around the Spencer museum sight. After Spencer you'll get some mainline action as the Atlanta & West Point 290 makes her first passenger run over the West Point Route in forty years as she powers a 1992 version of the Crescent Limited from Atlanta to West Point, GA. We'll continue with mainline action as we travel to Spartanburg, SC as the Norfolk & Western 611 prepares to do battle over Saluda Mountain. This is the first steam excursion over Saluda in almost twenty years. From Saluda we'll travel to Nelsonville, OH in search steam action on the Hocking Valley. You'll go Trackside as the Hocking Valley #33 make a rare late afternoon deadhead run from Nelsonville to Logan. We'll bring "Steamin in '92" to a close as we travel to Clinchfield country for some of the action with the Clinchfield 676 (UP 3985). You'll be Trackside as the Clinchfield Challenger winds her way from Huntington to Kingsport in Honor of the 50th anniversary of the Santa Claus Specials on the Clinchfield.
This program was produced by Trackside Video, a small video company which operated from 1987 - 2008 out of Forest Park, Georgia making train related videos. Most of the Trackside Video programs are lost media and are extremely hard to find, with only 14 full programs (including this one) having resurfaced online so far.
Yet again, a massive thank you goes out to @BenBensonStudios, who procured this (along with Steamin In '93) from eBay and sent it my way to be transferred and de-interlaced to 60fps! As of April 17, 2024, this and a few other tapes have been returned to Ben for safe keeping in his personal collection.
