The basic proportionality theorem tells us that if a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle so that it intersects the other two sides in two different points, then that line cuts those two sides in the same ratio. The converse is also true, telling us that if a line is draw to cut two sides of a triangle in the same ratio, then this line must be parallel to the third side of the triangle. We prove this result in today's geometry video lesson. We will need the basic proportionality theorem to prove its converse.
