Where does point-slope form equation of a line come from? We’ll be deriving it in today’s video lesson! We are able to find this form of the equation of a line by considering a single point on the line and a given slope. Then, we know the slope between any other point on the line and the given point must be the given slope (because the slope between any two points on a line is the same). This gives way to the point slope form.
If a line with slope m passes through the point (a,b), then its point slope form equation is given by y - b = m(x - a).
