Compression is used in audio to reduce the loudest peaks of the signal audio which then allows for the volume to be boosted by a greater amount. Compression can allow for a higher average volume (RMS).

Task: Record several statements about compression. Apply compression and explore different settings for ratio and threshold.

Learning intentions:
🎯 Gain an understanding of how Compression is used to attenuate peaks in the audio so that gain can be applied to raise the overall average volume (RMS = Root Mean Square)
🎯 Learn how apply a Compression effect to the Track FX window
🎯 Learn how to adjust the ratio and threshold of Compression to achieve the desired outcome of boosting the average volume of a voice to a professional broadcast volume.
🎯 Reinforce Recording and Editing Skills and knowledge of input gain, headroom, and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR).

Context: This video is 5th lesson in a series of lessons designed to build up recording and editing skills in the DAW, Reaper with the goal of recording a high quality audio book.    • Build skills to record an audio book ...
