In this tutorial, I go over the best Streamlabs OBS settings for a high quality stream that has minimal dropped frames and eliminates laggy streams.
The first step is going into your video settings of Streamlabs and ensuring your base resolution is the resolution of your monitor. Your output resolution can be the same as your base resolution or lower if you need to lower the quality of your stream to have a good experience.
Next is making sure your downscale filter is set to Lanczos (Sharpened scaling, 32 samples), and your FPS is set to 60. You can drop it to 30 if your quality isn't good.
Next, go to your output setting and check on your video bitrate. Run a speedtest to see your upload speeds to determine what you can set for your bitrate. If your upload speed it 10 mbps, then thats about 10,000 kbps, which means you should be able to set your bitrate to 5,000 and have it run just fine. I always run my bitrate lower than my speeds can handle just so I don't run into any issues. You can always lower your bitrate if your experiencing a laggy stream.
Next, go to Twitch's encoder chart settings to see what settings are optimal for your resolution, bitrate, fps, and key frame intervals based on your encoder. I recommend using NVENV new for Streamlabs OBS. This puts the encoding on a chip in your GPU that won't cause strain to your CPU or other aspects of your GPU.
Here are the recommended settings for NVIDIA NVENC Specs at 1080p 60FPS.
Resolution: 1920x1080
Bitrate: 6000 kbps
Rate Control: CBR
Framerate: 60 or 50 fps
Keyframe Interval: 2 seconds
Preset: Quality
B-frames: 2
In your output settings on Streamlabs, you can go to the advanced mode to see and change all of these settings.
Once your done setting up all of those Streamlabs OBS Settings, this last recommendation was the main fix for my streams.
Right click your Streamlabs application and click Run as Administrator. This will tell your PC to prioritize Streamlabs above other applications. Windows will naturally prioritize your game so the resources won't reach Streamlabs until everything else is good to go. This causes laggy streams. If you run it as an administrator, it focuses its resources on Streamlabs first, which doesn't take a lot, and you won't experience a loss in quality for your game.
