What is inflation?
Inflation is where the buying power of a currency decreases, meaning prices go up. Some small amount of inflation is actually good for the economy because it acts as an incentive to get people to consume goods. The most common way to measure inflation is using what's called the CPI or Consumer Price Index.
Causes of inflation?
Demand has gone up faster than most businesses anticipated
Supply chain constraints
Money printing from the Fed devaluing dollars
How to protect yourself from inflation?
Increase income
Equities (stocks/ETFs)
Lock in low rates
Commodities (gold/silver/crypto)
The worst thing to do is to hold all your money in cash thinking that is "safe". When inflation is growing, its best to have assets and investments (apart from a 3-6 month emergency fund).
