The most common cause for an extremely pronated foot, is footwear. Not genetics, not pregnancy, but by wearing shoes that are designed to be anything but functional. The use of a one size-fits-all rigid instep, only atrophies are feet and leaves the foot musculature inactive.
Extreme pronation in a conventional shoe, will cause pain (in new shoes) and damaged shoes (in worn-in shoes). Most noticeably, it will cause an eversion of the ankle, totally nullifying any proper ankle range of motion.
