Some of the best things about being a Software Engineer they just don't tell you! I've been a software developer for coming up to three years, these are the things that really make me enjoy this career. I've seen a lot of these day in the life of a software engineer videos, so i thought i'd do more of a life as a software engineer type of video.

First off , being a developer means you can build your own business. Not just one, several. If you can build your own web products, you can start up a side hustle from your bedroom. The only capital you need to outlay, is a domain, hosting fees and your time. You're in a much better position that say doctors, lawyers, civil engineers because they need to be physically present to do their job. You build a service and can let it run it's course.

Programming teaches you how to think. The core fundamentals of object orientated programming teach you how applications are built. Photoshop, Cinema4D, and some other notable programmes all utilize classes or object models in their UI. It makes it very easy to pick up and conceptualize complicated topics when you already have a core understanding of how this all works. Obviously some things are different but it's an extremely useful foundation to have.

Side Hustles. Related to the first, you can be a side hustle master if you wanted to. Whether that's picking up work on the side or building your own business. Being a developer means the power to earn is in your hands.

Remote living. As a web developer it's rather easy to pick up work. You have the power and ability (So long as you have an internet connection) to work from wherever you please given you find the right clients. It's very popular to work from Bali or Thailand at the moment. Something to think about, especially if you can land a US client that's paying local rates. You could actually save money.

Patience and confidence. Being a developer is hard work. We deal with a tonne of very complicated technical issues. The patience and grit you develop working with such inconsistency sets you up extremely well for so many aspects of your life and future growth. It teaches you to be resilient in the face of 'compilation error'. It's something i've only learnt to appreciate now (after hurling a few macbook pros out the window).

Thanks for checking out the video! If you want to support the channel directly, my patreon is open and i'd love to have you! Otherwise leaving a comment down below also does wonders - if you've got any questions i'll do my best to answer them!

Cheers!
