As was the case a century ago, a new class of corporations has found itself under the burning gaze of not only legislators, but society at large. The 20th Century regulatory reckoning decided which of these companies were "Robber Barons" worthy of punishment, and which were well-intentioned "Captains of Industry".
So now, 100 years later, the same discussion has resurfaced: where do the likes of Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon fall on that same spectrum? Will regional regulators update the way we measure megacorporations? Will they be left to proceed as they have, or is it time to rein in these giants?
