The term “bully breed” gives off an aggressive vibe. And some of these dogs may appear extraordinarily powerful and intimidating, but it’s an unfair reputation that described these dogs are aggressive. The name “bully” has nothing to do with the dogs’ personalities and everything with their history.
All bully breeds stem from one rootstock from ancient Greece called Molosser, which were muscular, big-boned, and large dogs. The Molosser was bred with other breeds such as the mastiff and the Old English bulldog in order to create dogs who could guard property, protect livestock, and help in farms. Later on, their strength was misused for bloodsports like bull-baiting, thus the name “bully” being given to describe them.
