Visiting Homes of Russian Counter-Culture Icons
I've gotten to see a lot of really cool things since I got stuck in Russia last year: palaces, cathedrals and the insane nature of distant republics. I even got to check out some small towns along the way. But this week I finally got to go back to Moscow to see something that inspired me long before I ever came here.
Moscow is famous for its cultural history. Some of the greatest writers, painters and the like all lived, and later died here. With the plethora of former residences of the movers and shakers of Russia now being left uninhabited, many are turned into living museums for their former hosts. So today I decided to finally take a look at the house-museums of two of Russia's greatest counter-cultural icons: Nikolai Gogol and Mikhail Bulgakov.
