Scene set during the preamble of the duel between Faust and Marguerite's brother, Valentine.
Mephistopheles offers his help and a sword. Contrary to the story, Faust refuses and Mephistopheles insists by threatening Marguerite, but to no avail. A minister joins for a happy ending.
