✨ Golden day at Shield Ranch for a mushroom cultivation class with the El Ranchito conservation corps students! We learned how to grow oyster and cordyceps mushrooms and how do you use the spent substrate for composting and soil building!

The facility operates 100% off-grid relying on rainwater collection and solar power; and serves as a learning laboratory for conservation. Shield Ranch is 6,400 acres of ecologically diverse wildlands, protecting Barton Creek and the Edwards Aquifer. The rainwater collection tanks were full and sun shining through the rain showers charging up the solar panels. We spotted wild turkeys, lots of mushrooms: jelly, polypore, bird's nest and gilled and a fallen vireo nest being held together by mycelium. ❣️
