#10 Kaaya Tech: Founded by husband-wife duo Harshavardhan Kikkeri and Shwetha Harsha in 2016 from Mysuru, Kaaya Tech is working on wireless motion tracking and capturing suit called HoloSuit that makes virtual reality experiences more immersive and productive. Their suits come with haptic feedback and dozens of sensors that allow Kaaya Tech’s customers to run specialized employee training simulators.
#9 Kidvento: Mysuru-based edtech startup Kidvento was founded by Nikhil Bhaskar and Sumanth Prabhu in 2017. They partner with schools to offer what is essentially a curriculum in a box – things like textbooks, workbooks, tests, teacher manuals and lesson planners. Apart from that they also provide their partner schools with a robust online platform, where teachers can host live classes and post videos, collect assignments, interact with parents and students.
#8 MicroDegree: Founded by Gaurav Kamath, Manikanta Nair and Rakesh Kothari in 2019, Mangaluru-based MicroDegree is an edtech startup that is teaching kids how to code through online courses but in their native language – Kannada.
#7 UDMA Technologies: Udupi-based fintech startup UDMA Technologies began its journey in 2016 with a digital wallet called the Use Anytime Anywhere wallet. Unlike normal digital wallets that require the internet to connect with banks in order to authenticate transactions, UDMA Technologies’ UAA Wallet does this by compressing authentication data into a single encrypted SMS message, thereby circumnavigating the internet entirely. This is particularly useful in rural areas where the connectivity to the internet is still not reliable.
#6 Nirnal: Founded by Niranjan Karagi in 2016, Belgavi-based Nirnal is a water filtration startup that offers products like portable bottle filter that can fit into a standard water bottle at just Rs 30 – providing access to affordable clean drinking water. Nirnal also sells other premium water filtration products besides their portable bottle filter and so far, they have sold over 2 lakh units in more than 15 countries.
#5 SenseGiz: Founded by Abhishek Latthe and Apurva Shetty in 2013, SenseGiz is a Belagavi-based IoT startup that is known for its wearable armbands called SAFR. It is a sleep and fitness tracker and can also be used as a safety device which notifies family members in the event of an emergency or accident.
#4 AI-Bharata: Founded by Vinayaka and Vivek Jyothi and Sahana Mallappanahally Shivaswamy in 2019, Sanduru-based AI-Bharata is an AI startup that has built a system called MYAIRA, which uses AI and ML to detect and differentiate between 15 different lung and chest disorders including pneumonia and COVID-19.
#3 Freshboxx: Founded by Archana Saxena, Pavan Patil, Praveen Narappanavar and Rohankumar Kulkarni in 2015, Hubballi-based Freshboxx delivers fresh fruits & vegetables directly from farms to their customers. They started off as a strictly B2C startup but now they’ve expanded into the B2B market and have already onboarded 150 retail partners including Big Bazaar, More, Nilgiris, and Reliance.
#2 Skykrafts Aerospace: Founded in 2015 by Srinivasulu Reddy G, Hubballi-based Skykrafts Aerospace is a drone startup that has created drones for a number of different use cases. They’ve built an agriculture spraying drone, an award-winning cardboard drone intended for DIY tinkering, a more generic drone for enterprise and government use-cases like Research, Surveying, and Inspection, and an open-source blockchain-based UAV Traffic Management system called SKYWARE which allows for the tracking of drones and the enforcement of drone-related laws.
#1 PublicNext: Founded by Manjunath Rao and Vishal Sheth in 2017, Hubballi-based PublicNext is a hyper-local social media news app that empowers its users to take on the role of news creators by reporting on the things that are happening in their neighbourhood or district, posting job opportunities, and sharing their opinions on social issues, all in their native language.
Sankalp Semiconductor: Founded by Vivek Pawar in 2005, Hubballi-based Sankalp Semiconductor is currently one of the largest independent analog and mixed-signal semiconductor design service companies in India. They were acquired by HCL in 2019.
