Zomato is going after a brand-new market of “Going Out”.
Its upcoming new app ‘District’ would allow you to discover and book restaurants, book tickets for movies and events, and even book a staycation.
This is a massive decision and according to Deepinder, “if executed well, it could become the third large B2C business out of Zomato”, after food delivery and quick commerce.
So why is the company doing this? Well, in simple words, “For growth.”
See, Deepinder has been very outspoken about his vision of making Zomato a 100-billion-dollar company. The first step of this plan was to become a leader in the food delivery space. Once that happened, he looked at ‘quick-commerce’ as the next market they could capture and launched Blinkit.
And now that these two businesses look stable, Deepinder is going after an even bigger opportunity, building a one-stop destination app for most of outdoor activities.
And with a massive userbase of 30-40 Million people, most of them living in metros, Zomato is in a comfortable position to build and scale this new app.
