How to Make Picture Frames - Woodworking Tips and Tricks

This video will focus on many picture frame woodworking techniques, and picture frame making tips that you can use to successfully build picture frames. This how-to woodworking video begins by creating a rabbeted edge on the frame pieces for the contents of the picture frame. Next, you will learn how to cut 45 degree miters for picture frames. I will show you how to cut miters for picture frames by explaining several steps including aligning the miter saw blade so that it cuts an accurate miter. In this video I will be using a Dewalt DWS779 miter saw to complete the 45 degree miter cuts for my picture frame. After cutting the 45 degree angles in the pieces we will assemble the frame and glue it together using bessey band clamps. Splines help reinforce the frame and provide a stronger bond in the mitered corners of the picture frame. I will explain how to create these spline kerfs on the table saw and how I create the splines and glue them into picture frames. I have also found great use for metal joiner hardware for the mitered corners instead of using splines and I really like using d-rings and picture frame wire to mount the picture frame on the wall. Picture frame D-rings and picture frame hanging wire are, in my opinion, the best way to hang a picture frame! I will also show you how to inlay your contents and securely mount a backer board using finishing nails. I hope you find this video valuable in creating a picture frame of your own, take care.
