Check out this excellent Spinal Galant Reflex, it literally has this baby is 2-steppin
This reflex causes babies to curve their hip outward if the lower back is stroked next to the spine. Its purpose is to encourage movement - which is believed to aid in the natural birthing process ie contractions stimulating this region to helping baby move down the birth canal & it also contributes to the development of range of movement in the hips needed for crawling & walking.
The Spinal Galant is developed in utero at approximately 20 weeks. It should be fully developed at birth & should integrate - go away - between 3-9 months of age. Retention greater than 9 months is associated w/ bed-wetting, fidgeting & the inability to sit still, short-term memory loss or an inability to concentrate.
A beautiful reminder of how newborns are capable of communicating with their parents & caregivers from the moment of birth. It’s literally a miracle that they come out of the womb already equipped with many capabilities needed to survive in this world.
