What inspires us to do what we do? Where do we find our “why?”
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and
Kidney Diseases with my quarterly news update.
At NIDDK, our “why” is, at its simplest, a guiding principle in our mission – “to improve disease
prevention, treatment, and health equity—pursuing pathways to health for all.”
In the Summer issue of the NIDDK Director’s Update newsletter, we learn from several people
in the NIDDK community about what inspires them to effect positive change for others.
We feature a behind-the-scenes look at our new Health Disparities and Health Equity Research
report, which incorporates thoughts from experts in scientific research, and equally
important, from the communities our research serves – including patients, caregivers, health
care providers, and others. The report provides a roadmap for advancing NIDDK’s research
portfolio to improve health equity and eliminate health disparities.
This issue also commemorates the 20th year of NIDDK’s Central Repository, which provides
access to data and other resources from NIDDK-funded research to investigators around the
globe.
And, we celebrate important achievements and milestones of NIDDK staff who remind us how
mobilizing our “whys” can lead to great improvements in health care, information access, and
equity for people everywhere.
I hope you read these stories and more each season and subscribe to the NIDDK Director’s
Update
