Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Two Hacks to Change All Excel Negative Numbers to Positive .
Welcome back to another MrExcel netcast! In today's episode, we'll be tackling a question sent in by Simon from the UK. Simon has a large range of negative numbers and needs to convert them all to positive numbers. He mentioned using an add-in for this task, but wonders if there's a native way to do it in Excel.
Well, I have a couple of methods that can help with this. The first one involves using the Paste Special function. Simply go to a blank cell, enter the number -1, and copy it to your clipboard. Then, select your range of negative numbers, go to Edit, and choose Paste Special. Make sure to select the option to multiply by values, and click OK. This will quickly convert all the negative numbers to positive ones without affecting the number formatting.
Another method that might be useful, especially if you have a mix of positive and negative numbers, is using the Replace function. Select your cells, go to Edit, and choose Replace. In the "Find what" field, enter a minus sign (-) and leave the "Replace with" field blank. Make sure to select the option to look in formulas and uncheck the box for matching entire cell contents. Then, click Replace All and all your negative numbers will be converted to positive ones, while the positive numbers will remain unchanged.
