We were invited to Corey's workshop to shoot a number of welding cutting and grinding images. It is the first time i have attempted this style of photography so a little planning was called for. We used split lighting from two strip boxes and some blue gelled backlight. Obviously safety in this situation is a major concern. Corey is a welding professional which made the logistics of this shoot more manageable. I was impressed with the dynamic range of tones captured by my SLR from the intense brightness of the welding arc to the dark background detail.
