Due to their close relationship with the domesticated crop species we depend on for our livelihood, Crop Wild Relatives are highly effective in reducing risks and reconnecting us to nature. Their genetic diversity provides an excellent opportunity to strengthen and crossbreed valuable traits into widely planted crops.
Combining Climate, soil, and other data with open biodiversity data from the GBIF network can contribute to identifying essential areas for crop wild relatives. The protection of wild species can improve food security and agricultural policy by increasing crop yields and making cultivated species more adaptable and resilient, free from pests and pathogens, and better able to adapt to changes in temperatures or precipitation.
