Today we will talk about a scientific paper, the authors of which consider the fundamental question of the origin and features of the migrations of the bearers of the Fatyanovo and Middle Volga Abashev cultures. The aim of the work was to consider hypotheses about the alien origin of the paleopopulations of the Fatyanovskaya and Middle Volga Abashevskaya archaeological cultures on the Russian Plain on the basis of new laboratory data on ancient DNA.
The study analyzed samples of 25 people belonging to the Fatyanovo culture (20 samples were obtained from those buried within the Volosovo-Danilovsky burial ground, two from excavations in Nikultsino and one each from Voronkovo, as well as Goluzinsky and Goritsky burial grounds). It is worth noting that the Volosovo-Danilovsky burial ground is the most representative burial complex of the Fatyanovo archaeological culture.
In addition, for the first time, a paleogenetic analysis was carried out of 14 people belonging to the Abashev culture (thirteen people from the Pepkinsky kurgan and one from the Elder Nikitinsky burial ground). The Pepkinsky mound, discovered near the village of Pepkino, is a collective burial of a group of young men, at least 27, of the Middle Volga Abashev archaeological culture, who died in battle.
