Shale and Sandstone blocked the path for a drainage pipe I was trying to bury in my yard. There was no way around this massive chunk of rock, so I grabbed a pick axe (technically a pick mattock) and began chipping away at the problem. Technique is important - specially if you have lower back problems like me - so I also demonstrate how to swing the pick efficiently.
