How to Bake Butternut Squash OR Acorn Squash in the Oven

Whether you’re making butternut, acorn, buttercup, carnival, honeynut, or others; there are two basic methods for baking winter squash in the oven. You can bake them whole, or bake them in halves. Baking whole is very simple and retains moisture well. This makes it ideal for making purée, and it is hard to overcook. Baking in halves allows for the seeds to be saved and is good for adding other flavors to the squash while cooking.

TEMP & TIME:
Bake at 350°F for at least 45 minutes. Check every 10 minutes after that. Very large squashes may need more time.

DESSERT ACORN SQUASH
• 2 Tbls butter (per half acorn squash)
• 2 Tbls sugar (per half acorn squash)
• Spices to taste (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves)
