The world consists of many different types of environment, from forests to grasslands, and deserts to marine. Natural processes or exchange of energy take place in plant and animal communities within these environments and the functional attributes of the ecosystem keep the components running together. All these functions of the ecosystem take place through delicately balanced and controlled processes. The heroes of nature come in many sizes and fulfill many different roles. In fact, you can consider every species a hero as all have a role to play, but some species have a bigger impact on the ecosystem, and in their absence, we witness deprived nature and depletion of biodiversity.

The Grazers – Grazing is a method of feeding in which a herbivore feeds on low-growing plants such as grasses or algae. Herbivores have a big impact on their surroundings.
The Disrupters - Disrupters such as wild boar and other pig species disrupt the environment with excessive rootling that exposes bare soil, allowing pioneer plants and ‘weeds’ to colonise. They turn over and disturb turf with their snouts, in search of roots, and earthworms.
The Engineers - Ecosystem engineers are species that modify their environment creating new habitats or modifying existing ones to suit their needs. Through their activities, they significantly affect other species by providing and maintaining microhabitats.
The Hunters – Predators have huge effects throughout their ecosystems. They control the abundance and distribution of their prey and regulate lower species in the food chain, an effect known as trophic cascades. Dispersing rich nutrients and seeds from foraging, they influence the structure of ecosystems.
