After a one year hiatus from autocross, I'm so happy to be back for another season! I also have a header and tune now, and boy, what a difference does it make! Today was mostly about re-acclimating myself to how the car handles in autocross configuration. I have brand new RE71Rs, which I haven't had since the beginning of 2016. I'd forgotten how much grip they had, so a big part of the day was learning to trust the tires to keep sticking. I couldn't even remember what settings I had been using for my coilovers... and I tried some new lower pressures today (26 PSI at all four corners.) I was pretty sloppy all day, though. This might be my fastest run, but I severely overcooked some corners, and was pretty far from a lot of cones. I'll need to focus on my line at the next event, now that I've gotten re-acclimated with the car's setup.

Overall, the day went well. I held down 1st place in my class in both the morning and afternoon heats, and wound up 4/10ths quicker than 2nd place, and about a second ahead of 3rd. Not bad for my first day back! I was also surprised to see that I wound up 22nd in PAX. My goal has always been to break into the Top 20 in Chicago Region, and this is the closest I've ever gotten!

The header and tune are AMAZING, by the way. Launch control off the line is fun, but mostly it's the way the car accelerates out of a tighter corner now. Before, coming out of any tighter elements typically had me deep in the clutches of the torque dip. I'm not pretending that the car is 20% faster now, but it does accelerate healthily out of those corners now, and generally feels a lot peppier, and more willing to get moving. There is no way this new setup isn't adding a few tenths to my cleaner runs by virtue of that alone. The fact that my run was far from ideal, and yet I still got closer to the Top 20 than I ever have before is, I think, a good indicator of this!
