You don’t need an expensive camera for night-sky photography. With today’s smartphones, it is possible to capture excellent pictures and time-lapse videos of stars, planets, satellites, meteors and airplanes. All you need is to download a night-sky photography app. Many different apps are available for Androids and iPhones. Last night I used my Apple 7+ and the “Stars Full" iPhone Camera app. The app was purchased from the Apple App Store. Follow simple instructions to take pictures and videos. It is necessary to put the phone on a tripod to keep the camera steady. Since the phone will be running all night, you will need to attach an external battery charger. I used a Ravpower model PR-PB044 charger (https://www.ravpower.com).

Indivudal GoPro HERO4 photos were converted 1) into timelapes with a free time-lapse app and 2) into star-trails videos with a Star Trails app (http://www.star-trails.com).
