A Journey through Hackney’s African and Caribbean History is a new short film written and presented by spoken word artist and educator, Bad Lay-Dee, produced by Hackney Museum, and filmed, directed and edited by Winstan Whitter.

Programmed as part of Hackney’s Black History Season, the film is interwoven with poetry
and spoken word and delves into African and Caribbean history, heritage and culture using
resources from Hackney Museum. The film explores parts of Black History including
Enslavement and Abolition, Post-War Movement, Windrush Generation, Windrush Scandal
and the Black Lives Matter Movement in Hackney.

The film also acts as an interactive learning resource for children and young people using
discussion points throughout. It is primarily targeted at KS2 and KS3 (pupils aged 8-14 years
old) teachers to use in their classrooms but is suitable for educational resource for all ages.
