Dr. Fauci among hundreds who've contracted West Nile virus amid spike in cases
West Nile virus has been found in 33 states so far this year, accounting for 216 cases reported in the United States, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Among those 216 cases is Dr. Anthony Fauci, who was briefly hospitalized after contracting the West Nile virus but is now recovering at home, a spokesperson told multiple outlets.
About 1 out of 150 people develop a serious and sometimes fatal illness after contracting the virus. Symptoms typically include fever, body aches, rash, and nausea.
