With the development of genetics, interest is aroused not only by questions about the origin of populations, but also of individuals, especially if they belonged to a noble family. In particular, questions about the origin of the elite of medieval Russia in the IX–XVI centuries, where the most important actors were representatives of the ruling family of Rurikids, have long been the subject of discussion. Previously, paternal lines in the form of Y-chromosome haplogroups of the Rurikids family were reconstructed from the biological materials of modern people, whose origin, with varying degrees of certainty, goes back to Rurik. And as for the research of ancient genomes, they are complicated by difficulties in identifying the remains of the Rurikids and other nobility. Since before the beginning of the XV century. the names of the buried were absent on funeral structures, tombstones and sarcophagi. Burial sites of that era are established according to chronicle reports and lists of names for commemoration of the XVI–XVII centuries. In addition, the practice of reusing old burial structures, the relocation of revered remains and their removal during the anti–religious campaign in Soviet times, led to the fact that a significant part of the remains of the XI-XIV centuries. of the burials in ancient Russian temples and not only, it turned out to be lost or cannot be reliably associated with certain historical figures. Therefore, those few burials are of particular value, where the bone remains are reliably attributed to representatives of the Rurikids according to the archaeological context, anthropological data and a complex of historical evidence.
Such reliable burials include the burial in the Transfiguration Cathedral of Pereslavl-Zalessky Prince Dmitry Alexandrovich, the second son of Alexander Yaroslavich Nevsky.
