RL101 - 7 The Sibilants
Reporting from the field, in the Yuzhaya Afrikanskaya Respublika, or South Africa to you and me, Huliganov brings you lesson 7 in the Russian alphabet course. These letters are known as the sibilant group, from the Latin for 'hissing', and are worth learning together as they form not only a separate group from the point of view of phonology, but also the derivation of the shape of these letters is generally believed to derive from Hebrew. It should be no surprise that these letters to not derive from Greek, as eighth century Greek did not contain these sounds and to this day uses neologistic combinations of letters to transcribe foreign words containing these sounds.

A few words about how I do things - you'll notice that I do not like to disable comments or ratings, I rarely block or censor
commentors, even those who are insulting towards me, but I do sometimes block things said which insult other people in the
videos). I usually accept video responses, I always enable ratings, even when the rating doesn't look flattering. I rarely
take material down.
I simply don't understand why some content providers block the comments or the ratings - to me this insults the viewers and
makes the whole experience of watching their videos poorer. I do everything to put your liberty at a premium - all videos of
mine are open for embedding and syndication. Please rate, comment, subscribe, favorite, embed, and let the world know if you
liked anything.
