camera metering - DSLR exposure metering modes
this is lesson no 8 from the Academy of Photography basics for beginners. Spot metering is measuring a small area in the image, usually the subject where one will focus and expose only for that, ignoring the rest of the scene. Partial metering is measuring hte light around the subject and the evaluative metering is useful when the whole scene brightness needs to be measured. depending on the contrast between the subject and the rest of the scene the metering will help the camera to adjust its settings to expose as intended
