EQUIPMENT
All steel unitary construction, laminated windscreen, twin door mirrors remote to driver, locking fuel filler, two-tone moulded bumpers, colour coded grille, bodyside coachline and mouldings, tailgate tape, glass sunroof, styled halogen headlamps, colour coded front and rear seatbelts, colour keyed fascia and steering wheel, rear parcel shelf, floor mounted centre console, remote controlled driver’s door mirror, fascia mounted digital clock, heated rear window, rear wash/wipe, cigar lighter, radio cassette. EXTERIOR
The factory paint finish in Oyster Beige, (Code SMF), boasts a beautifully polished and unform shine throughout. All panels are pin straight with even shut lines and very close scrutiny will reveal only light touched in markings notably to the bonnet edge, offside rear quarter and boot lid edge. The underside is very clean and has never seen any structural repair work so often needed on even very low mileage Metro’s! Remarkable originality such as factory spot welds to the rear arches, factory fitted decals, supplying dealer fit number plates and rear screen sticker are wonderful to see. Even the first issue 1990 tax disc in 1990 remains in the supplying dealer branded tax disc holder! The front and rear light clusters and rear fog lamps are factory fitment with the Austin logo to the lenses and all glass is registration etched. Every inch as special as it is beige!
INTERIOR
The Zenith Fabric seats in the Mink colour scheme, (Code LNK), remain in beautiful condition. The plump carpets have been protected by the genuine fitted rubber Metro mats to the front, these being highly sought enthusiast items in themselves! All functions and controls operate as they should including the Philips R570 stereo cassette complete with the original card rear view mirror hanger warning would-be thieves that the unit is security coded! The immaculate boot area houses an original and usused Dunlop TD Tyre, jack with short white bungee cord strap and circular plywood disc cover. Reminiscent of a far simpler motoring era and preserved in superb condition.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The legendary and time proven A-Series engine of 998cc displacement needs no introduction. Producing an ample 46bhp, this charming Metro offers a relaxed driving experience yet with classic Mini fun driving characteristics, even down to the instantly recognisable transmission whirr that they left the factory with! Factory plates, stickers and panel stampings are clearly visible within the clean engine bay. The preferred four-speed manual transmission is light and precise.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Factory standard pressed steel wheels remain fitted and are dressed with the original full-width wheel trims which are immaculate. Factory fitted and highly sought-after Michelin TDXE 160/65 R315 tyres retain plenty of tread and good rubber condition. The dual line servo-assisted brakes with ventilated front discs pull the car up quickly and safely.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 27th January 1990 by Austin Rover Main Dealer, The Selsdon Garage Ltd in Croydon, this original example has covered just 9,861 miles from new with two owners who were mother and daughter. A Retail Order Form and subsequent sales invoice is made out to the first owner, Mrs Frost, who paid £6,000 for the car and took advantage of the Rover Metro Clubman 0% finance offer most likely in the aim of selling the final cars prior to the launch of the all new Metro! Garaged at all times and used sparingly, the car was kept on the road every year until 2003 as evidenced by each MOT certificate from the first in 1993 to 2003 which is when Mrs Frost stopped driving. In 2005 the car was inherited by her daughter who although lived in the same road, the Metro remained in her mother’s garage. In 2024 the car was discovered after the garage block was earmarked for demolition due to development of the site, and photos in the history file show the discovery of the car and transportation away.
The neat history file further consists of welcome letters from Rover to Mrs Frost and a folder of invoices from the first 6,000 service in 1990. The full document wallet holds the service book and all handbooks, guides, radio code and point of sale literature.
