I ran a quick test to compare the internal SD Card Reader in the new 2021 14" MacBook Pro M1 Max to the dongle I was using before.
Thanks to some digging by my boy Liam we found out that the SD card slot built into the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models supports UHS-II, which could theoretically allow for read and write speeds of up to 312MB/s with USH-II SD cards. It's been said that Apple has confirmed 250MB/s speeds and in this test I got 270MB/s.
For reference, there is now a higher speed available in UHS-iii, with read and write speeds up to 624 MB/s , but based on how expensive even this V90 card was that matches the UHS-ii speed I'm guessing there aren't currently many cards that could take advantage of that right now. However if you're gonna keep this computer for long enough, you may eventually end up with a card that's faster than the reader.
