API Trends and Insights 2023: SmartBear State of Software Quality API Report
The API space is evolving rapidly and it can be tricky to keep track of what is happening. It helps to look at the reports that are getting published that are based on interviews with practitioners in the API space.
Frank Kilcommins of @Smartbear spends some time discussing the recent "SmartBear State of Software Quality: API 2023" report which provides insights into a variety of issues along the API lifecycle.
One issue we're discussing is that of a gap between consumption and production of APIs: While teams often have a good understanding what they expect good APIs to be like from a consumer point of view, they are not necessarily confident that they can produce good APIs. This makes a lot of sense since understanding product quality attributes and being able to create products with those attributes are two different things.
