the tile-thumbnails scripts lets you set options for creating a contact sheet from video using ffmpeg including the size of the thumbnails, number of tiles, padding and margin between the images and the colour of the margin.
the font colour of the timestamps text and the colour of the timestamp box and specify the the offset at which to start to creating the thumbnails so if the video starts with a black frame you set an offset so the first thumbnail isnt a black frame, you can also disable timestamps as well
you can also batch process videos to create contact sheets from a directory of videos and the script works on linux, unix, mac and windows either using wsl or cygwin
