Welcome out on another explore!
This time, we're looking for the world's oldest railway tunnel and viaduct.
It's widely accepted that 'Fritchley Tunnel' in Derbyshire, is the oldest railway tunnel, being opened by the Butterley company in 1793.
It's also widely accepted that the Kings Mill viaduct in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire is the oldest surviving railway viaduct, opening in 1819.
However, there was a little known railway in West Yorkshire, called 'the 'Flockton wagonway' that was opened to serve the local collieries, somewhen between 1776 and 1790, depending on what records you unearth.
But either way, even if we take the latest date of construction, it's still a solid three years before Fritchley, and a whopping twenty-nine years before the Kings Mill viaduct.
I am joined by Phil, Ande, Nikita, and Jake, as we take a stroll through the West Yorkshire countryside, in a bid to uncover these forgotten record holders.
