Thank you for joining us on another explore.
The alarm went off at 4:15am for this one, and it was certainly worth it.
I am joined by Phil as we take an explore around the manifold valley in the peak district, where the views are breathtaking, and there is plenty of history to be discovered.
This is part one of an explore around the area, and in this one we’re concentrating on Thor’s cave. Thor’s cave is an incredible natural cavern where human remains dating back thousands of years, have been discovered.
Also on this explore we take a look at a series of other smaller caverns, Wetton Mill, which closed in 1856, plus ‘Nans tor’ cavern which sits on the hill behind the mill.
We then follow the route of the former Leek and Manifold Railway, a narrow gauge line that opened on the very day we walked it, but 120 years prior.
There are plenty of remains to be found including an awesome tunnel that has now been taken by the road.
We end the walk with Phil going full Columbo, and sniffing out a copper mine, that doesn’t even show up on maps.
I hope you enjoy.
