Flip House Episode 11: Bathroom Renovation
This little bathroom in the flip house was one of the bigger pain points for me because it was so. small. Thankfully, there was a small flex space on the other side of the wall so my contractor was able to open up the wall and borrow some space from an extra closet to transform this bathroom into a bright functional room. The first step was demo (shown in Episode 7). With tiles, vanity and toilet removed my contractor was able to come in and knock through the wall and frame it accordingly. He also put down the concrete backerboard so it was all prepped for tile. We were also able to move the necessary plumbing and electric prior to the drywall team hanging and taping the walls in there. I painted the space before coming into the scrape the thinset from the backerboard and tape/ mud the seams.
I'm using a porcelain tile that ended up being a pain in the neck. Most of the tiles arrived broken and the replacement tiles I purchased appeared to be a totally different material that barely matched the first 90% of the floor that had already been installed. I also found that the second batch was almost impossible to cut with my tile saw which I now know is typical for a porcelain tile so I suppose I got lucky that the first batch didn't give me a hard time!
I'm using a leveling system to keep all the tiles in place and even and then grouted to pull it all together.
I love how bright and functional this space is now! Upgraded hardware and a new vanity in addition to other decorative touches and this is a new improved bathroom!
