Ospreys slope soaring with ballast
In a good 25 kt sea breeze we were fortunate to witness a pair of Ospreys slope soaring effortlessly along the coast. Both had the remains of a sizable fish as payload. These gracious big birds have a wingspan similar to our flying wings, which are 1.2 m. They were completely unfussed by our presence - in fact seemed to take no notice of our gliders - merely soaring above and past us as they cruised along the coastline.
