Moorpark is a lovely suburban/agricultural community north of Thousand Oaks off the 23 freeway, with a population of about 35,000. The historic center of the city is known as "Old Town" which surrounds High Street. Century-old pepper trees line this downtown area where the city's library, civic center, senior center, and train station are located. Over the past 30 years, the southern part of Moorpark has developed many homes, schools, parks and shopping areas. To the North just off the 118 freeway, Moorpark College was founded in 1967. It is one of the few colleges that features an Exotic Animal Training and Management Program. In addition to many Fortune 500 companies, Moorpark's largest employer is Kavlico with over 1000 employees. The Civil War Reenactment, which takes place at Tierra Rejada Farm is said to be the largest this side of the Mississippi.
