First unmanned dry cargo vessel launched
Norwegian shipbuilder Kongsberg has launched and started operational tests of the autonomous electric dry cargo vessel Yara Birkeland.
The 80-meter-long vessel will operate between two ports in the south of Norway: Porsgrunn and Brevik. The main cargo (Yara Birkeland can take up to 3,200 tons) will be bulk chemicals, particularly fertilizers.
Tests will last for 2 years, after which the vessel will be allowed for commercial operation.
