In the second video of our series, we dive into the process of creating a 3D environment for our scene using the Blender GIS add-on. This tool allows us to import accurate map data from Google into our viewport, providing us with precise elevation and surrounding environment data for our location.

Description
We start by guiding you through the process of downloading and installing the Blender GIS add-on from GitHub. Once installed, we clear our scene and use the add-on to set up a base map sourced from Google's satellite images. We then guide you through the process of searching for and selecting your desired location.
Once our location is set, we export the visible map data into our scene as a textured plane. We then retrieve and apply elevation data to our plane, giving it accurate terrain features. Finally, we use the OpenStreetMap data to import 3D models of buildings and roadways into our scene.
After importing the environment data, we start blocking in the roads and footpaths for our scene. We clean up the imported road network, apply a skin modifier to it, and adjust its width and thickness. We then apply a shrinkwrap modifier to make the road conform to the surface of our map plane.
We then duplicate our road network to create footpaths, convert them to curves, and create a bevel profile for them. We guide you through the process of creating a footpath profile and applying it to the edges of the footpaths.
