As far as video game music goes, you can't beat the original Sonic the Hedgehog series.
The basslines were so groovy, the leads were so originative and catchy, and even with the limitations of the Genesis/Mega Drive, the composers made some really captivating tunes.
Sonic 1 was the first game I ever played as a child. I must have been four years old when my parents bought it for me.
I was so scared of the boss fights that I had my dad come and beat Robotnik each time I'd play. I don't even think I made it to this zone as a wee lad. :D
As I revisited the game later in life, this theme was one of the most memorable in the first Sonic installment. In highschool music class, I would arrange this theme on keyboard when I was supposed to be playing some boring classical piece.
I love this song because of the funky part a, and the shift to an upbeat, hopeful major feel in part b.
I hope you enjoy it as well!
If you like it, a thumbs up and a subscribe would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
P.S. Let me know in the comments if you'd like me to do more SNES music on the Genesis chip, and which games.
