Benque Viejo del Carmen is a little known border town, everyone who enters or leaves Belize by land through the Guatemalan border, only passes through the main avenue by car or arrives at the bus station and then straight to the border.
I never imagined that there were two gas stations (one I think is out of service), bank branches (Belize Bank and Heritage Bank), a bakery and I found a hotel but it seems to be closed.
Taiwanese supermarkets galore, I don't really know why, a combination of wooden and concrete houses, few modern buildings. I found several churches (evangelical, Jehovah's Witnesses and Catholic), according to what I was told the central park of the town was the cemetery and then it was moved to another place, there are still some tombs but I don't know if it is true.
It looks like a quiet town with little movement but as they say "Deliver me from the calm waters, I'll get rid of the bad ones" you never know.
