I had a TERRIBLE experience with a Gibson Dark Fire around 4 years ago that ended up in my wife BANNING me from ever buying another Robot guitar - ever again. That guitar was just faulty so the only time I break her rule is if a deal is just too good to pass up.

After that experience, I've always thought that the Dark Fire Les Paul was actually pretty cool - if only it would've worked. Stripping off all the robot bits and converting it to a traditional Les Paul has been on my 'to do list' one of these days. They have a sweet gloss, flame maple top with a great satin mahogany back and neck. Black binding with an ebony fretboard and carbon fiber looking inlays and pickups covers/rings. It would be an AWESOME standard guitar.

Well... little did I know there was actually a run of guitars that EXACTLY matched my vision - stock - from the Gibson factory. This guitar was called the Gibson Les Paul Traditional Special - Code Name "London Fog." It is essentially a Japan-Exclusive model, that took a Dark Fire's body, but left out all of the robot electronics in favor of traditional appointments. They also changed the finish to this weird orange, pink, greenish finish. I kind of liked the finish on the Dark Fire as-is, but it was cool to see that my dream was actually a reality.

Most people don't know about this model. In fact, only about 5 have surfaced online so I doubt there were that many made. Did Gibson make this run to use up leftover Dark Fire bodies? Or perhaps it was a dealer who had a similar dream to mine that decided to order a small run of them.
