I really have mixed feelings about this one. I think it sounds really nice for the price. Actually, it surpassed my expectation. But the way is built, beyond its a plastic pedal, makes me some noise (literally).
This guy has 6 modes: spring, plate, hall, gate, room and modulate. The thing is that, to my taste, they don’t sound like their label. The spring sounds pretty decent, but it doesn’t sound like a real spring. The same goes for the hall and other modes. They sound quite good for the price, but they aren’t what is written. Modulate mode sounds good to me, but it has some shimmer tones, which is not bad.
This is a 40-dollar pedal. It's fundamental to consider this to align our expectations. I’ve been reviewing lots of reverbs and delays and the main question is about the quality-price relation. For me, the DR600 has an outstanding quality-price relation.
Now, the not-so-cool-things. It generates a lot of noise, a lot. Even when it’s turned off. Also, it affects the stereo levels of the output signal when you turn it on. Also, a lot of noise and glitching when you switch between modes. Also, the effect level knob, sometimes, increases the volume of the output signal.
Anyway, I still like it. Don’t expect this to be a Lexicon or a Strymon. This is a cheap pedal that does the job really well. You should evaluate it on its own merits. It has its own identity.
The DR600 goes quite well with the Minilogue XD. Sometimes this guy sounds too digital, but keeps the analog sound of the synth.
¿Would this be my main reverb? No. ¿Am I gonna keep it? Yes.
