The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is set to vote Tuesday on a zoning ordinance for data centers.
The proposed ordinance would, among other things, require data centers to be set back at least 200 feet from residential areas, set building size standards and require noise studies to be conducted. As it stands, Fairfax County doesn't have a specific ordinance relating to data centers, which are allowed by right and don't require public hearings if the developers follow the zoning guidelines.
